I've been leading workshops in painting, drawing and music for many years at folk festivals and
various other venues. However, I thought it might be a good idea if I
knew what I was doing, so a few years ago I passed the City and Guilds 7407 Adult and Further Education Certificate,
parts 1 and 2.
At present I teach Painting and Drawing one day a week at
Swinton Lock Activity Centre and have been involved in
various exhibitions at and on behalf of 'SLAC'.
Over the years I have had a close working relationship with Barnsley Performing Arts Development Service
on their Tender Roots program, introducing young school kids to folk and roots music.
Similarly, for the past few years, I have taught a Folk Music course at Giggleswick School in North Yorkshire for
Music for People which is an organisation
for the advancement of music education, and an excellent job they do too.
I've taught a mixed instrument course, led Ukulele sessions and had a really enjoyable time at the last two summer schools for the
Banjo, Guitar and Mandolin Federation
who are in the business of increasing the popularity of banjos, guitars and mandolins, unsurprisingly!
Every summer for several years, in the last week of August, I have had the privilege of leading the
Whitby Folk Week Festival Orchestra workshop, this year in partnership
with the highly talented Carol Dawson, fiddler with the Workshy Profits
In the past I have led Art or Music workshops at
The National Centre for Popular Music, (it wasn't my fault!) Barnsley College, several special
and mainstream schools, Kelham Island Museum, Goole Waterways Museum,
many Folk Festivals, etc etc If you would like to find out more about my workshops please contact me.
